Just read your article on Reason.com. Good stuff.

I consider my self a scientist (I’m a chemical engineer), and I couldn’t agree more. I definitely agree that research is incredibly prone to bias.

Perhaps the greatest skepticisms I have about global warming are:

1) Is it really a bad thing? I read a scientific article recently that talked about all of the land in Canada and Russia that would be made available for agriculture with global warming. Everything that I have read about the negative effects of global warming are incredibly alarmist and political. Point in case: I read about a study that suggested that women would be most harmed by global warming (you can’t tell me that was a very scientific study). So now if you disagree with anti global warming government intervention you are a bigot. Really the only tangible thing people have been able to blame on global warming is lower numbers of polar bears (by the way, did you know those fuckers are the only animals known to hunt down humans?)

2) Can it even be stopped? With the economies of China and India coming online, the demand for carbon use is an exponential function. People don’t seem to understand what that means: even if we manage to slow the growth of the demand (which would be a miracle) you are not going to stop the growth and you sure as hell are not going to lower the global demand. Instead what will happen is the supply of carbon will gradually run out, and new forms of energy will begin to take the place of carbon as the financial incentive for these new technology grows with the higher price of carbon fuel.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I like the song. Pavement got overlooked too much for the likes of Radiohead.
